Information Regarding Optional Recycling Program

  • Bag- Newspaper and mixed paper, combined in one clear bag OR 1 blue bag OR securely bound with twine. Another alternative is to use a white bag and write recycle on the bag with a permanent marker OR a black bag with a piece of masking tape and write recycle on the tape.

  • Bag- Plastics, glass, ABC beverage containers, aluminum, bi-metal, aerosol, and steel cans may be combined together in 1 clear bag OR one blue bag. Another alternative is to use a white bag and write recycle on the bag with a permanent marker OR a black bag with a piece of masking tape and write recycle on the tape.

  • Cardboard needs to be flattened.

    Optional Recyclable Items

  • Newspaper and mixed paper (advertising inserts, office paper, junk mail, flattened cereal boxes, magazines, catalogs, phone books, construction paper, egg cartons, envelopes, toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, shredded paper, flattened soda/beer can boxes, frozen food containers (that are white inside), wrapping paper, greeting cards, manila envelopes, and paperback books. You may bind with thick twine, horizontal and vertical. Please make sure bundle is secure. Then it may be placed in a brown paper bag (also recyclable) or a clear bag or a blue plastic bag (no more than 20lbs per bag). Another alternative is to use a white bag and write recycle on the bag with a permanent marker OR a black bag with a piece of masking tape and write recycle on the tape.

    Not Recyclable

  • Hardcover books, spiral bound notebooks, carbon copy paper, waxed milk and juice cartons, drink boxes, frozen food containers (that are not white inside), paper towels and napkins, paper cups, plates and bowl, wax paper, dog and cat food bags, paper containing food residue, wet paper (if rain is predicted on your pickup day you will want to put paper in a plastic bag to keep the paper dry).

  • Plastics #1 and #2 (bottles with a neck that is smaller than the container itself) remove and discard lids and placed into a clear bag OR a blue bag. Another alternative is to use a white bag and write recycle on the bag with a permanent marker OR a black bag with a piece of masking tape and write recycle on the tape.

  • The following items are NOT RECYCLABLE- plastics that are not bottles, plastic lids, butter tubs, cups or bowls, frozen food plates or containers, nursery plant containers, motor oil containers, antifreeze containers, pesticide bottles, plastic wrap, deli trays, all Styrofoam products, plastic grocery bags, plastic garbage bags, (blue, clear, white, and black), 5 gallon buckets, and ice cream tubs.

  • Glass- clear, blue, green, brown should be rinsed clean, (labels do not need to be removed) remove lids and discard, and placed into a clear plastic bag OR blue plastic bag. Another alternative is to use a white bag and write recycle on the bag with a permanent marker OR a black bag with a piece of masking tape and write recycle on the tape. No more than 20 lbs per bag.

    Not Recyclable

  • light bulbs, mirrored glass, dishes or cookware, drink glasses, and broken glass.

  • Corrugated Cardboard- We will take a minimal amount of flattened cardboard with your regular trash pickup. For large amounts of cardboard or large piles of cardboard, such as moving boxes or cleaning out the garage, or boxes from large appliance or furniture purchases, please call our office at 828-272-0064 or email at hendersonvillewaste@proton.me to arrange to special pickup for additional fee.
